Founded in 1984 by Robert (Bob) Forbes, we’ve been in the industry for over 32 years and have worked on projects over the value of R 100 million. We are a level 4 BEE contributor.
We strive to be Southern Africa’s leader in HVAC by providing the best products, excellent workmanship and proactive service to all of our clients.
We currently employ over 280 qualified and semi-qualified staff that continuously undergo assessment and training in our in-house Skills Development Centre, ensuring that all of our employees are highly trained and equipped with the necessary skill sets to do the job right the first time around.
Our head office is located in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, where we occupy 1400 square metre premises, allowing us to store stock for short lead time projects, do our own compressor re-builds as well as customisations. We also have regional offices in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, and in Glen Anil, Durban.
Our in-house Control Room is operational 24/7, 365 days-a-year, providing peace of mind to our clients who are guaranteed the quickest response to Auto Bleeps and after-hour/emergency call-outs.
We have an internal health and safety department and our safety officer conducts regular site inspections to ensure all work is compliant with regulations, thereby guaranteeing a safe environment for all.
Our shareholders are structured as follows:
Robert (Bob) Forbes has been in the HVAC industry for over 40 years and started Ampair Maintenance Pty Ltd after he left Anglo American Properties in 1984. His aim was to create a maintenance company that specialised in HVAC equipment, including controls and electrics. Within a short space of time, he acquired the portfolios of major property companies and property developers.
Introduction of our Engineering division
Based on our policy to provide a fast and reliable service, clients soon requested us to undertake equipment alterations within some of their properties, which brought about the implementation of the Engineering division. Today, the Engineering division specialises in new works, retrofits, design, supply and installations of HVAC.
Bob was joined by Roberto (Robbie) Di Giovampaolo who left Anglo American Properties after 17 years of service. A qualified air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, Robbie today is Director and GM at Ampair.
Thermaire Investments Pty Ltd becomes a shareholder
Thermaire Investments Pty Ltd bought shares in Ampair when the synergies between the two companies were identified. Thermaire Investments is a leader in the installation of large scale commercial HVAC equipment, but they did not have a dedicated maintenance wing to maintain the equipment for their customers after installation. Since the share investment in Ampair, Thermaire Investments outsource all maintenance contracts to us and we work hand-in-hand by drawing on each other’s expertise and experience. Thermaire Investments trades as Improvair Environmental Solutions (IES), DuctShop, who specialise in all types of standard and custom ducting, Viking Air Conditioning, who manufacture a range of air handling units, and Switched-On Solar, a renewable energy company.
Taking Ampair into the future
2015 saw the re-branding of the company. Not only have we shortened our name to Ampair, but we have also introduced the pay-off line, ‘HVAC Services’, along with a new logo and corporate look.
As our 32st year of doing business approached, we realised that we needed to rethink the way we operated in order to remain a top service provider – this goes from internal processes to the way our brand is positioned in the market.
Over the years, Ampair attracted and maintained some key customers, including: Growthpoint Properties, Hyprop Investments, Liberty Properties and Drake & Scull, and we want them to know that we are serious about doing business by not only keeping up with the latest in training and technology, but by also implementing a more modern and professional image.
